Department fuel cells and systems

Within the department “fuel cells and systems” ZBT has concentrated the application oriented development regarding PEM fuel cell stacks, their construction and components as well as their necessary system technology. Basis for this technology chain are the polymer-graphite compound bipolar plates produced by injection moulding which give the framework for low- and high temperature PEM fuel cell stacks. The power range of these realized stack technologies currently has reached 750 Wel, larger designs are in the development process. The finishing system engineering adds necessary peripheral components like pumps, valves and fans as well as the control and automation components. The hydrogen supply by pressure tanks, metal hydride tanks or by reformer systems also is topic of the system integration. The close link between material optimization for the fuel cell and the application oriented system engineering results in a funded portfolio for research and development.
