State-of-the-art scientific practice, especially with project partners at different locations, requires professional research data management. To support our scientific departments in handling, maintaining and analysing scientific data according to the current gold standards of good scientific practice, we are looking for a

Data Science Officer / Research Data Manager (m/f/d)

Your tasks include

  • development and maintenance of research data management (RDM) based on NFDI
  • setting up servers and databases
  • administration of hardware and software, mostly on Linux servers, in close coordination with our IT department
  • identifying and addressing cross-departmental synergy effects in data storage and processing
  • developing and conducting internal training courses for FDM and databases as well as a communication strategy for research data management

We expect

  • awareness for data sensitivity, security, integrity and accessibility issues
  • independent and solution-oriented way of working, creativity in the development of individual software solutions
  • structured work methods, in particular ongoing documentation and communication of implementations
  • you enjoy working in interdisciplinary teams with scientists and technical staff
  • willingness to communicate proactively in the sense of network maintenance for constant coordination with RDM activities at the universities and in state and federal initiatives
  • ability to disseminate knowledge and guide student assistants

Your profile / The following knowledge and experience are an advantage:

  • degree in computer science, natural sciences or engineering or a comparable qualification
  • own research experience and doctorate degree is an advantage
  • basic knowledge and understanding of the quality, scope and structure of research data at a technical institute
  • experience in handling data of different types
  • experience in setting up and operating professional IT systems, particularly Linux
  • experience with DevOps, i.e. technologies in the field of research data management, e.g. databases, container technologies, optimization tools, VCS (git), CICD pipelines
  • knowledge of metadata standards, data organization, storage, databases (MongoDB)
  • sound software knowledge and programming skills, e.g. in Python, SQL and PHP
  • good communication skills, especially in a scientific and interdisciplinary context, as well as good written and spoken English; German is an advantage

The position is available full-time, but can in principle be split.
